“My heart breaks every time I see her having a seizure. I just want my daughter to be like she used to be,” said Zanitha’s mother, her voice shaking through her tears.

Zanitha (3) should be able to run around and play happily like other children. But since she was 7 months old, she has been battling epilepsy that causes sudden, intense seizures in her tiny body.

Because of this, Zanitha had to undergo two major surgeries to remove parts of the left and right sides of her brain. The surgeries were extremely risky, but they were the only way to keep her alive.

Even after the procedures, Zanitha’s struggle is far from over. She still needs regular check-ups and continuous medication to prevent her condition from worsening. Doctors have even recommended another surgery to reduce the long-term impact of her epilepsy.

Meanwhile, her parents are doing everything they can with extremely limited income. Her father sells cassava chips, earning only about $2 a day. Her mother works as a housemaid with a monthly salary of $70.

This income barely covers their daily needs, let alone the ongoing medical bills and major surgeries required.

“I have no choice but to bring Zanitha with me to work, because there is no one else who can take care of her,” said her mother.

Now, this small family is overwhelmed. They don’t want to give up, but without help, Zanitha’s treatment could stop at any time.
