It’s the look in baby Zayn’s eyes — just six months old — staring into the world, but not truly seeing it. His mother, Namira, breaks down in tears. His father, Mr. Feri, works as a security guard. “Zayn doesn’t cry like other babies. He doesn’t smile. There’s no expression on his face… only the constant tremors of seizures, up to eight times a day.”
Zayn was born in October last year, a moment that brought joy and hope to his small family in Bogor. But that happiness began to fade when they noticed his head didn’t look like other children’s.
At seven months pregnant, doctors were concerned about abnormalities in Zayn’s head. But the ultrasound results came back normal. It wasn’t until Zayn was born that the truth became undeniable — his head was abnormally small, and over time, it kept shrinking.
At just two months old, Zayn had his first seizure. With no fever and no warning, his parents rushed him to the ER. After five days in the hospital and a CT scan, the diagnosis shattered their world.
Zayn suffers from microcephaly and epilepsy. Even worse, doctors confirmed that he has only 2% vision — his brain nerves can no longer send light signals to his eyes. Zayn is almost completely blind.
Now, Zayn urgently needs a head surgery in a hospital in Jakarta, but the schedule remains uncertain while his condition worsens. He needs to visit the hospital 3–4 times a week, even though it’s far from home and transport costs are draining the family’s last savings. Zayn also requires special milk, medication, and medical equipment — many of which are not covered by insurance.
His parents have borrowed money from relatives and neighbors just to keep Zayn’s treatment going.
“Our hearts broke when we were told Zayn needs urgent surgery… and we didn’t even have enough for an ambulance.” – Mr. Feri
Zayn hasn’t had the chance to truly see the world — yet he’s already fighting a battle no baby should ever face. Mr. Feri just wants to bring his son home… healthy and whole.
