But fate had other plans — now I’m diagnosed with bone cancer…” Alif never imagined he would have to give up his dreams because of a disease that attacked his body.
It all started three years ago when Alif fell while playing soccer at school. A month later, a lump appeared on his right knee and kept growing. In December 2022, Alif’s mother took him for a check-up at the local clinic and he was referred to a hospital for further tests.
Alif was diagnosed with bone cancer and needed immediate treatment. His parents were devastated upon hearing the news. Alif underwent regular outpatient treatments until he eventually had to undergo an amputation surgery in August 2023. Sadly, just two months later, another tragedy struck — Alif’s father fell ill from a stroke and passed away.
After the amputation, Alif could no longer continue his schooling and started helping his mother sell vegetables. They earn only around $1 a day. Alif should still be attending regular hospital check-ups, but due to financial hardship, he had to stop treatment. Now, Alif dreams of having a prosthetic leg so he can walk again and help his mother even more.
