Grandpa Sugiyono (82) walks slowly and with difficulty every day, sometimes for miles, to sell broomsticks. He buys these brooms from others and resells them for a profit of only 2,000 rupiah per piece.

Unfortunately, not every day does someone buy the brooms. On days like this, he has to return home empty-handed to meet his wife, who is waiting at home with hope.

Grandma Saminem (62), his wife, has been bedridden for the last year due to a stroke. Every morning, Grandpa Sugiyono leaves home without ever having breakfast. Whether he can eat lunch or dinner depends on his sales that day.

Likewise, for his wife’s medicine, it’s rare that grandfather can afford to buy it from the pharmacy. Many times, he goes to stores and pharmacies to exchange brooms for food or medicine because he has no money.
