Lasarus Mei is 57 years old and lives completely alone in a remote village in Manggarai Tengah.

He was once an ordinary man with a simple life—but everything changed when a mysterious illness took over his face. What started as a pimple in 2019 turned into an aggressive tumor that has now consumed his nose, upper lip, upper jaw, and even one of his eyes. He can no longer see and survives only with help from distant relatives who occasionally bring him food.

Lasarus has never been taken to a hospital. The nearest one is over 30–45 minutes away, down a rough road. But even if he could get there, he has no money for treatment. For five years, this illness has slowly taken his face, his health, and his dignity. He cannot bathe, he cannot eat on his own, and he cannot afford the most basic care. His home is a fragile wooden shack with no floor—just dirt. The roof is full of holes. When it rains, the water pours inside. And he simply endures it, with nowhere else to go.

Lasarus has no spouse, no children, and no steady source of help. He is sick, blind, and forgotten.
