My name is Umi Kalsom Binti Hassan, and I am the mother of 8-year-old Nurin Haziqah, who has been battling serious heart and lung conditions since birth. She suffers from a leaky heart valve, underdeveloped blood vessels to the lungs, and chronic lung disease.

When Nurin was just 2 years old, she had a procedure to create an opening in her neck to help her breathe. She has been receiving care at the National Heart Institute since she was only three days old, and continues to need frequent follow-ups and intensive medical support.

As a full-time caregiver, I am unable to work, and my husband earns only a small income as a rice farmer. We cannot manage the rising costs of Nurin’s treatments and medical supplies, including suction tubes, sterile gauze, ventilator tubes, and tracheostomy straps.

Nurin’s condition limits her mobility and activity, and she often struggles to breathe. Every few hours, I must suction her airway to ensure she can breathe safely. The cost and demands of her care are overwhelming for our family.
