“Every day I eat only a banana to keep going, so my child’s treatment can continue… and now another trial has come for Afnan,” says Mr. Sugeng through tears as he tells his son’s story. He constantly worries about the fate of his little family—especially Afnan—whose life depends on him.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Since he was just 1½ years old, Afnan has been in and out of hospitals—sometimes twice a week. In 2021, he was referred from the local hospital to the city for further care after suffering high fevers, seizures, foaming at the mouth, and turning blue. Tests revealed bone cancer, and he began chemotherapy.
At age two, Afnan slipped into an eight-month coma. His stomach swelled abnormally, and doctors found kidney cancer. “When he finally woke up, he didn’t remember who we were,” Mr. Sugeng recalls painfully.
After a long course of treatment, Afnan was briefly stable and allowed to continue care at home. But only seven months later, just after the Eid prayer, his condition worsened again. He developed a spinal narrowing and bone fractures that left him unable to walk or even use the bathroom on his own.
Mr. Sugeng works as a security guard at a heavy-equipment company, earning barely enough to survive. He sacrifices everything—sometimes living on a single banana a day—to keep Afnan’s treatments going, especially the medical costs not covered by health insurance.
Kind friends, please don’t let Afnan’s condition deteriorate further. Your help can keep his lifesaving treatment on track and give this brave boy a chance to heal.
