At just 2 years and 3 months old, Ardian Syahputra has already endured more than most people will in a lifetime.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! He suffers from macrocephaly, which causes his head to grow abnormally large due to fluid trapped in his brain. He also has epilepsy, making him experience up to 20 seizures a day. Ardian was born with cataracts in both eyes and is now completely blind. On top of all this, he is severely malnourished. His body is fragile and thin, with no proper muscle or weight development.
When he was just 8 months old, the pressure inside his head became so intense that his right eye ruptured. His left eye also lost vision, leaving him in total darkness. His face has been deformed ever since.
His father, Ilham, used to work as a palm oil laborer, earning as little as one to five dollars a day. But when Ardian’s condition worsened, they had to travel 9 hours from their home to the hospital for treatment. With no one to care for his siblings, the entire family — including Ardian’s 8-year-old brother and baby sister — came along.
They could only afford a rented room for two weeks. Now, they live in a charity shelter and depend entirely on donations and the kindness of strangers.
Doctors recently installed a monitoring device in Ardian’s skull to track the pressure in his brain. If his condition stabilizes, he will need surgery to insert a brain shunt that can drain the fluid and reduce the swelling.
His family urgently needs help to cover for ongoing treatment and surgery, milk, supplements, and diapers and daily living expenses. No child should have to suffer like this. Ardian still has a chance to survive — but only with your help.
