Keinan Alyona’s tiny body was far too small when it was first cut open by a surgeon’s knife. She was only 1 year and 1 month old, and Keinan has already undergone two surgeries because she was born without an anus (anal atresia). Before those wounds could fully heal, she now has to endure broncho-pneumonia (a lung infection) and a 4 mm hole in her heart that threatens her life.

Since birth, Keinan has had to endure unimaginable pain because she had no way to pass stool. Her first surgery took place when she was only 3 days old. The second at 2.5 months. And now, Keinan should be undergoing her third operation, but everything is on hold. Not because of medical reasons, but because her mother can’t afford it.
Keinan lives in a village with her young mother and her grandparents. Her father left when she was only two months old, after promising: “I’ll work first to pay for her surgery.” In reality, he remarried and never returned. Since then, her mother has fought alone, bathing her, changing her colostomy bag, taking her to a hospital three hours away, back and forth every week.
Keinan’s grandfather, Maryani, sells fish from dawn to night. His inconsistent income is barely enough to buy food. Keinan’s mother can’t work full time. Occasionally she works as an ojek (motorbike taxi) driver for the neighbors while caring for her child. To cover medical expenses, they’ve had to borrow money from the village cooperative.
Keinan’s cries are a never-ending sorrow. When her lungs are infected and she gasps for breath, her body stiffens in pain. When her heartbeat weakens, her mother can only hold her hand and pray. But prayer alone is not enough, Keinan needs real help. She needs her third surgery and urgent treatment for her heart.
