“In my old job, I often skipped meals and survived on instant noodles. So I thought the pain I felt was just gastric. Until one day I had to be rushed to the hospital for surgery. It wasn’t gastric at all… it was aggressive colon cancer,” whispered Mr. Lutfi.

Abdurrokhman Lutfi (45) never imagined he would end up this weak—often bedridden and unable to even sit up on some days.

It all began earlier this year, when Mr. Lutfi noticed a lump below his stomach. Over time, the pain became unbearable—not just normal discomfort, but a sharp and constant agony.

At first, the local clinic suspected a digestive issue. But after his condition didn’t improve and further tests were done at the hospital, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

His cancer has progressed so badly that he can no longer defecate normally. He now has to rely on a colostomy bag every day. He continues to undergo rounds of chemotherapy, but even that is at risk of stopping due to his worsening financial situation.

Despite his weakening body, the constant stomach pain, hair loss, and repeated chemo cycles, Mr. Lutfi still pushes himself—for the sake of his elderly mother, whom he cares for.

Every day, he walks from village to village selling feather dusters. Many times, he doubles over in pain while working. His income is uncertain—sometimes only $3 a day—and he is already grateful for that.

Often, the money isn’t even enough for food. He drinks only water to fill his stomach because he can’t afford a meal. Many days, he comes home extremely weak after walking all day with no buyers. He was even tricked once, losing all his merchandise.
