“Mama is sick, but I can’t do anything…”
I always see my friends go home smiling, sharing stories about school and their friends. But me? I come home to see Mama lying in pain.
Before, Mama could walk, cook, and take care of us. But since she fell in the kitchen last year, she hasn’t been able to move. Even before that, Mama already had kidney disease. Every day she has to do dialysis at home, sometimes for up to 10 hours. I see Mama crying from the pain, but she never complains.
Mama always says she’s strong, but now she’s getting thinner. She only weighs 25kg. I’m scared… scared that one day I’ll come home and Mama won’t be here anymore. But I can’t do anything. I’m only in 6th grade, and my younger sibling is still small. All we can do is sit by her side, hold her hand, and listen when she says she’s in pain.
Papa used to work, but now he stopped so he can take care of Mama. We don’t have money like other people. Sometimes Mama doesn’t have her special milk, diapers, or medicine. I see Papa sit in silence, but I know he’s worried.
I’m not asking for much, but if there are kind people willing to help Mama, I’d be so grateful. Mama has never asked for anything in her life, but I know she wishes to be healthy again, to take care of us like before.
I really hope someone can help lighten Mama and Papa’s burden… so we can still have a place to share our stories, to be cared for, and to call “Mama” for a little longer.
