At only 5 years old, little Raihan Andika Syahputra has spent more than half his life fighting for survival. He suffers from Meningitis, Hydrocephalus, and Pneumonia—conditions that have left him weak, dependent on oxygen, and in need of continuous medical care.

Raihan’s battle began in early 2022, when a high fever and seizures led to a devastating diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis and hydrocephalus. He underwent two major brain surgeries to place a shunt that drains fluid from his brain, saving his life. But the complications didn’t end there. Raihan lost focus in his vision, struggled with developmental delays, and most recently developed severe pneumonia, requiring a month-long stay in intensive care on a ventilator.

Even after being discharged, Raihan cannot breathe without oxygen. Every day, he uses two full oxygen tanks, and his mother remains by his side around the clock. His father works far away as a plantation laborer, earning just enough to cover food and basic needs, but nowhere near enough for the overwhelming medical costs. His mother tries to supplement their income by weaving and selling bamboo baskets, but her time is consumed by caring for Raihan.

The family has health insurance that covers part of the treatment, but they still face crushing expenses for transportation, oxygen, medications not included in insurance, and frequent hospital visits. These costs are estimated to reach over $9,000, a burden far beyond what they can manage.

Despite all the pain he endures, Raihan’s parents hold onto one dream: that their little boy will one day be able to breathe freely without oxygen, walk on his own, and live the carefree life every child deserves.
