Help A Baby with Thalassemia: Zio will face life-long medication
Fundraiser
Elsya Maulina is mother of Zio, a baby who fight with Thalassemia acute.

Zio, my second child, has been suffering from Thalassemia since the age of 3 months. Initially, Zio had an HB level of only 6, losing weight, experiencing bloody diarrhea, yellowing skin and eyes, vomiting, and lapsing into unconsciousness. But gradually, his condition worsened, with his HB dropping continuously, becoming pale, frequently feeling weak, and his growth stunted.

After undergoing examinations, my child was diagnosed with Thalassemia. The treatments administered so far include blood transfusions from the age of 3 months at HAMBA Muara Bulian Hospital, Jambi, Indonesia, and thalassemia screening at M. Djamil Hospital in Padang, Indonesia.

At 11 months old, Zio needs lifelong blood transfusions, lifelong consumption of iron-chelating medication, monthly hemoglobin checks, and ferritin level checks every 1-3 months. If not addressed promptly, it will worsen Zio’s condition, and he might even lose his life because he depends on blood and iron-chelating medication for survival.

“When my child was diagnosed with Thalassemia and referred to Padang, we had no financial means because my husband’s salary is only $100 per month in Indonesia. We pawned our only motorcycle, our only valuable possession, and borrowed from a cooperative for additional expenses to go to Padang,” Elsya recounts.

Let alone the costs of further medical treatment, our family’s living expenses depend on my husband’s income. Despite attempting to save money from online sales, it’s still not enough, and we fall short of covering the medical expenses for our child.

“Even though my child’s illness cannot be cured and has been diagnosed only until the age of 10, I only hope that my child is given a long life and the strength to face the life he will lead in the future,” emphasized Elsya.

Dear friends, family and strangers, I’m pleading with you to join our battle so that our child will have better and more decent life-long treatments. By standing on our side, we will have more strength to face this and believe that our Zio deserves a chance to continue living vigorously.
