I am Meskerem Legess, mother to a little boy named Suleman Mathos, who is just 3 years and 9 months old. On June 28, 2023, my world came crashing down when my only child was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia, an aggressive and life-threatening blood cancer.

Before he fell sick, Suleman was such a cheerful and active child—the light of my life every single day. But after the diagnosis, everything changed. His body grew weak; he could no longer play like he used to. During every treatment, I can only hold him close and try to soothe him, fighting back the tears as I watch his small body battle a disease far too big for his young age.

I work as a cleaner, earning a very small income. This job is nowhere near enough to cover the cost of his treatments, medications, and daily medical needs. I try my hardest not to give up, but as a single mother, the weight of this struggle feels unbearable to carry alone.

Every single day I pray for a miracle—that my son will be given the chance to live, to grow up like other children. I long to see Suleman run again, laugh out loud, and call out to me in his happy voice.
