She is already 75 years old, yet every morning, Grandma Ngatiyah still walks 5 kilometers. She goes around the village selling traditional cakes just to survive and to pay for her son’s medical needs.

Her body is weak. She often struggles to breathe. But she has no other choice.

At home, her son — Pak Arifin — can only lie down. His leg broke after he fell into the river while fishing. The wound became infected after surgery, and he now needs another medical procedure. Sadly, his leg has only been wrapped with cloth for a long time. We worry that if left untreated, the infection may worsen…

Her daughter-in-law also cannot help. She suffered a stroke, leaving her unable to move or speak. Now everything depends entirely on Grandma Ngatiyah.

Every day, she brings home only about $1 — and that’s if her cakes are sold out. Many times, she has to borrow money just to buy ingredients.

She knows her body is no longer strong. But she still forces herself to walk and sell, because if she stops, her family won’t eat — and her son will never recover or work again.

“As long as my son and daughter-in-law can survive,” Grandma Ngatiyah says softly. Her eyes are wet, yet she continues to smile. In her heart, she hopes someone out there will care.
