A 93-Year-Old's Daily Fight for His Wife’s Health, Selling Newspapers
Fundraiser
Yayasan Peka Peduli Sulawesi is a non government organization who help people in need

With few buyers, Grandpa Nabah has no money to feed his sick wife at home…

At 93 years old, Grandpa Nabah still works hard to support his beloved wife. Despite his swollen legs and weakening steps, he refuses to give up, selling newspapers at a traffic light from 6 AM every day.

But each day feels heavier. After waiting all day, he only sells one newspaper. He takes home just 40 cents—not enough to buy rice, let alone medicine for his critically ill wife.

In their small rented home, his wife lies weak and bedridden. She suffers from a blood clot in the right side of her brain, making it difficult for her to move or do anything like she used to.

Meanwhile, Grandpa Nabah keeps fighting. Every morning, his regular ride comes to pick him up. The driver has become like family, helping Grandpa climb in because his legs can barely move.

But this struggle is far from easy. Due to his swollen legs, Grandpa often wets himself while selling newspapers, unable to control his bladder. Yet, he pushes through—just to afford a meal and to help his wife get better.

Every day, he only manages to sell 10-20 newspapers. With such a meager income, he can only hope to stay healthy enough to keep working.

Kind-hearted people, let’s help Grandpa Nabah.

Recent Update on Grandpa Naba

Thank you to all the donors who have sincerely supported Grandpa Naba and his family through our program.

Below is our progress report and the implementation updates carried out up to mid-2025.

April 2025: We provided essential groceries to help support Grandpa Naba and his family’s daily needs.

July 2025: Additional grocery assistance was delivered to help sustain the daily needs of Grandpa Naba and his wife.

August 2025: Our volunteer team visited Grandpa Naba once again to deliver basic necessities and check on his health condition as well as the wellbeing of his family.

Grandpa Naba still urgently needs support to meet his family’s basic needs. Despite his age and health challenges, he remains motivated and enjoys working. He often says that if he stops working or selling, his body starts to feel unwell.

Our team has advised him to get adequate rest and focus on his health, as his daily necessities are currently supported by donor contributions.

His wife remains bedridden at home. Several medical check-ups have been conducted, but there has not been any significant improvement. Grandpa Naba himself continues to receive medical treatment as his leg is still experiencing swelling.

Our next plan:

  • Continue communication and provide assistance related to the medical needs of Grandpa Naba and his wife.
  • Identify and support their most urgent needs.
  • Reassess the plan to renovate their house, which was previously postponed due to issues with land ownership documents (the land they currently occupy does not belong to Grandpa Naba).

We extend our deepest gratitude to all donors for your kindness and support. Your contributions have brought renewed hope and strength to Grandpa Naba and his family.

Warm regards,

PEKA Peduli Sulawesi Team
