At just 12 years old, Restu should be in school but instead, he’s the sole provider for his blind mother and younger sibling.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! After his father passed away from heart disease, Restu’s life changed completely. While other children prepare their schoolbags in the morning, Restu grabs a heavy sack and a metal stick to begin his day scavenging for recyclables.
He walks for miles each day, under the sun, collecting plastic and scrap to fill a sack bigger than his body. Often, he works on an empty stomach—he simply doesn’t have money for food.
For each full sack of recyclables, Restu earns around $1.50, depending on the materials. The first thing he does after selling it? Buy two packets of rice—enough to share with his mother and sibling at home.
Restu’s mother, Nurhayati, has been blind since birth. With her late husband gone, she is unable to work, and even struggles with basic tasks. Recently, she injured her leg while cleaning their home. Despite his exhaustion, Restu comes home every evening to clean and care for her wound.
Right now, this small family is in urgent need of help. Let’s not leave Restu to carry this burden alone. With your support, we can help give him a chance to be a child again.
