At just 9 years old, Muhammad Qawamudin bears the weight of a life filled with loss and struggle. Orphaned after losing his mother during childbirth and his father to a lightning strike a year ago, Qawamudin is left utterly alone.

His grandmother, who briefly cared for him, passed away 40 days ago, leaving him to fend for himself in the house his parents left behind.

Despite his loneliness, Qawamudin refuses to give up. Every day after school, he walks 5 kilometers under the scorching sun, selling boxed milk.

For his efforts, he earns just 5,000 IDR (0.45 SGD) a day—barely enough to afford a meal. Some days, he goes home empty-handed, relying on neighbors’ kindness or eating leftover rice sprinkled with salt.

At school, his struggles are no less visible. He owns only one book and has no school bag, feeling different from his peers.

While other children play during breaks, he continues to sell milk, determined to keep going despite the odds. Qawamudin’s resilience is inspiring, but no child should face such hardships alone.
