Their father died tragically, crushed by a truck. Their mother passed away suddenly after a long day selling fried snacks. It all happened within just two years.

“When she got home, Mom said she wasn’t feeling well. She sat down to rest, then suddenly lost consciousness… and never woke up again,” Salma recalled.

Suddenly, they were orphans.

Suddenly, Salma had to be the breadwinner.

Suddenly, her younger siblings became her responsibility.

When her parents passed, Salma was supposed to be preparing for high school. But the fear of dropping out became real—she had no idea what to do.

To fight for her education while also supporting her younger siblings, Salma took any job she could—even if at first, she was paid only $1 a day.

She started working as a waitress at a small restaurant near home, staying until 10 PM every night. But even that wasn’t enough to cover their needs.

So, Salma took on another jobwashing trucks. Her younger siblings helped whenever they could. Still, it wasn’t enough. So, even while attending school, Salma started selling fried snacks to earn extra money.

“Sometimes I feel exhausted. Why do I have to work just to go to school? Other kids don’t have to…” she said, her voice trembling as tears welled up.

Countless nights have passed with nothing but tears and exhaustion. She still struggles to accept the sudden turn of events in her life.

“But this is my fate. Mom and Dad are gone, so I just have to keep moving forward. I have to keep going,” she said, regaining her strength.

Salma used to be a carefree child. But in an instant, she had to be the strongest one for her siblings. During the last report card distribution, she felt embarrassed and envious—because she had to collect her report card alone. She had no guardian to stand in for her parents.

Still, the reality of her past keeps pushing her dreams of education further away. There’s no one to ask for help. No support system—just prayers she keeps sending up.

Would you help ease Salma’s burden? She has only one wish—to ensure that she and her siblings don’t have to drop out of school. Even a small donation can make a difference for Salma.

Your donation will not only support Salma and her siblings but will also be distributed to other beneficiaries with similar needs through Sedekah Jariyah Bahagia, with Salma’s full consent.
