Deep in a remote area of North Sulawesi, Panti Asuhan Van Gessel shelters 15 children with disabilities. Getting to the orphanage requires a grueling 12-hour boat ride followed by another 2-hour journey on a small boat. Because of this, donors rarely visit, leaving the orphanage to struggle on its own.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The children live in a fragile plywood shelter, sleeping on thin mattresses placed on bare concrete. During the day, the room becomes unbearably hot, and at night, the cold seeps through the walls. When it rains heavily, water leaks through the damaged roof, forcing them to evacuate to a nearby school building for safety.
Food is a daily struggle. With limited funds, they eat whatever is available—sometimes just rice and crackers. Medical check-ups are a luxury they have never had.
For over five years, Elise and her husband have cared for these children, sacrificing their own comfort to provide them with a home. Despite financial hardships and the emotional toll, they refuse to turn their backs on them.
With your support, we can ease their burden—helping them build a safer home, eat better meals, and receive proper care.
